  2. Age - Middle Aged
  3. Gender - Women
  4. Race - Indian
  5. Location - Western Towns/ Cities

A method of categorising known as demographics is used . The demographic data is used to shape the text to appeal to a group with known reading/viewing/listening habits.

As a student, I belong in the socio economic group E, as this is the lowest group and I am only in that group due to my age I feel patronised. However, this is a good scale to be used my media groups as it allows them to group audiences.
I believe that the film 'Shaun of the Dead' is aimed at the socio economic group C2-E.

Young & Rubicam 4 Cs Model
Cross-Cultural Consumer Characterisation Model
A more useful audience segmentation model than the traditional ABC1 categorisation
It acknowledges the global nature of media audiences
Divides audiences into 7 audience types
4 main categories are (MARS) - Mainstreamers (Biggest group in society), Aspirers (Materialistic/ Superficial), Reformers (Socially aware and have an independent mind), Succeeder (Confident about what they believe in) and Struggler (Only thing they think about is paying the bills and surviving - biggest dream to win the lottery).

Harris interactive document (April 2011)

When creating our thriller film we had to consider who we were making the film for, consequently our target audience was created. We used the Harris interactive document (April 2011) which is an investigation of diverse and mainstream UK film audiences commissioned by the UK film Counc.

The above statistics and data shows how 27% of the audience belong to the C2 social class according the socio-economic. The C2 category include skilled workers and tradespersons (white collar workers,  white-collar work is performed in an office, cubicle, or other administrative setting. Of the social class categorisation the C2 group has the highest percentage of people that consider the thriller/ suspense as their favourite film genre. Therefore, as a group we concluded it would be strategic and effective to include characters within our film who belong to the C2 socio-economic group as it would allow the audience to relate to the characters and therefore increasing the profit by creating a larger audience.

In order to maximise our audience as a whole, it was important to explore diverse audiences who typically enjoy watching films that fall under the thriller/ suspense genre. From the above information I was able to understand that the older women section had a high percentage of interest (62%) and is growing (9+) in our film genre Thriller/ Suspense. Therefore we are going to include and older women in our film in order to allow the audience to relate.
